We’ve lost an icon!
27 Aug 2020
Unfortunately PKF Durban has lost an icon and a piece of our family. Kevin Gertenbach passed away, succumbing to COVID-19 related complications Thursday morning, 27 August. We thank you for spending a moment of your time thinking about Kevin and his family as you read a little more about the man we at PKF Durban admired and are going to miss greatly.
Kevin started at PKF too many years ago to count, and he was made a partner in 1993 at just 30 years old. Kevin went on to serve as the head of our firm from 2012 to 2018, during which time he also took on the role of leading and building up PKF South Africa. Kevin was a member of the PKF Africa Board and represented Africa on the PKF International Board. Kevin had an undeniable presence and a hunger to be the very best at whatever he took on and that is exactly what he did at the various PKF levels at which he served.
In his later years Kevin settled down and together with his wife Robyn they had two bright and beautiful daughters, who we heard many a story about at lunch each day, Kevin eating his raw broccoli and cauliflower. We know that while our loss is large it pales in comparison to what his family are feeling, and our thoughts and prayers go out to them. They will always be part of the PKF Durban Family.
Kevin left an impression and we know many of you will have your own memories of meeting Kevin or sharing an experience with him and thus you too may be experiencing sadness at hearing of Kevin's passing. Should you wish to send condolences to Kevin's family, please send these to [email protected] and we will make sure your messages are passed on to Kevin's family.
Kevin's passion for PKF and you his clients was hard to match. It is a part of the enormous legacy he leaves behind and one that all of us at PKF Durban aspire to emulate.
All who knew Kevin will agree that his enthusiasm for life and living it to one's full potential were infectious, and this is how we choose to remember and celebrate Kevin and the life he lived. One where he gave it his all!
Ahmed Paruk on behalf of the entire PKF Durban Family.
